Learn how to change your life and truly CET yourself free

Many methods for healing work on the basis that individuals are broken and need fixing. But Dr Lisa Turner challenges this narrative, helping people to face and overcome their trauma on their own terms. With 1 in every 3 adults reporting having experienced at least one traumatic event in life so far, there is a large need for people’s emotional experiences to be treated and taken seriously.

In her new book, CET Yourself Free, Dr Lisa Turner sets out a new revolutionary approach to trauma recovery and overcoming negative emotions, debunking the need to overly-process or relive past experiences.

Lisa is a trauma expert and the Founder of CETfreedom, a spiritual and consciousness awakening organisation, specialising in training professional coaches and practitioners in trauma recovery. Before working in the health and wellbeing sphere Lisa’s background was in engineering. With a PhD in Mathematical modelling and Aero-acoustics, her scientific experience translates into her approach to healing and spirituality.

Often, therapy methodologies either apply rigid systems that obscure the complexity of emotional suffering or over-rely on the promise of a higher power. They require people to confront, express, understand or even relive their traumatic experiences. But these are unnecessary and usually misguided.

In CET Yourself Free, Lisa introduces Conscious Emotional Transformation (CET), her revolutionary new approach to trauma recovery. Balancing science and spirituality in a unique way, it is a powerful healing technology that helps people release trauma and negative emotions in the fraction of the time often advertised by other methods. Throughout the book, Lisa draws on her own journey, recovering from the traumatic experience of being trafficked as a child to reaching a place of full healing.

Too often emotions are considered baggage, a nuisance to be dismissed. In CET Yourself Free Lisa emphasises that negative emotions are completely natural but that trauma is the truly alien experience. Throughout the book, Lisa proposes the revolutionary idea that there is only one emotion, love, and that all trauma is caused by resistance to love. She breaks down the importance of a healthy emotional response cycle, and how when the system is damaged, people may experience resistance and blocks that can be expressed as PTSD, flashbacks or limiting beliefs.

As well as explaining the CET process, CET Yourself Free covers a range of topics, including the limitations of coping mechanisms, how to recognise signs of trauma, how past trauma manifests and the unique potential of fusing scientific and spiritual approaches in therapy.

Through CET Yourself Free, Lisa hopes to guide people in a deep dive into trauma recovery and how to release negative emotions. Designed for both those with a professional background in coaching and psychology, or simply those interested in the subject, the book begins readers on the journey to becoming more informed about their own emotional wellbeing, or even a fully-fledged CET practitioner.

CET Yourself Free is published by Rethink Press

About the author

CETfreedom aims to revolutionise the coaching and therapy industry by ensuring that every practitioner has the Conscious Emotional Transformation (CET) method in their toolbox to help them guide others to leading a life free from emotional pain.

With a PhD in mathematical modelling and aero-acoustics, Lisa made the transition from scientist to spiritual teacher through her own journey to become free from her past, in which she was kept as a house prisoner for 5 years by a paedophile from the age of 15. Lisa’s book ‘I Loved a Paedophile’ is currently being adapted for film.

It’s funny the little things we remember. Seemingly innocuous things that people say tend to stick with us. For me, it was a comment my Mum made. I was going about my usual day, multi-tasking with my kids, aged one and three. Chatting to her in the kitchen whilst simultaneously doing hundreds of different things – feeding the kids, emptying the dishwasher, hoovering, picking up toys, responding to texts, checking work emails. And my Mum said to me, ‘I feel exhausted just watching you.’ And in that moment, do you know what I remember? Feeling proud. I remember feeling capable and on top of life, and what a compliment for someone to marvel at my energy reserves. The thing was, I was the one who was exhausted. Exhausted beyond the demands of young children. I was exhausted pretending to be someone I wasn’t in the corporate world. By my people-pleasing. Always saying yes. The constant need to prove. The overpacked calendar.

The demands. The pushing. The lists. The prioritisation of everyone else’s needs above mine. It wasn’t long after that I welcomed in the New Year. And for some reason that I didn’t realise at the time, I decided to commit to a three-week yoga intensive course. This yoga course meant that I was to wake up at 5:30 a.m., scrape the frost off my car and head to my local yoga studio for an hour of yoga from 6-7 a.m. Now, being totally honest, I hadn’t chosen it for the exploration of self. It felt like a challenge for my body. It felt like another goal. As I started the yoga course, I was all in my head. I was constantly comparing myself to others. If I could push myself harder, hold the pose longer, try a bit harder, I would be better. The meditative practice at the end felt pointless. I remember thinking, ‘What is the actual point of this? I am not getting any stronger here.’ In these moments, I was preoccupied by the desire to get home so I could get on with my day, my work, my chores, my job. Then a few days in, something extraordinary started happening. My body started demanding my attention. Aches came. I started feeling all the things. Guilt, anger, sadness, grief. I started seeing colours and auras, and I became aware of the whispers of something greater than me.

Then 15 days in, we did a particularly powerful yin practice. A gentle form of yoga where you hold poses for a longer period of time. Yoga designed to help you be. I hated every minute of it. But with each pose I felt a softening. A surrendering. An ache. I remember leaving that class and feeling raw. I was grey. I felt like I was a shell of who I was. The next day I came out in shingles down the whole left side of my body. My feminine had finally had enough. She was ready to be heard. She was demanding my attention through a virus that was showing up down the left side, my feminine side, of my body. As I was signed off from work for two weeks, I got up the next morning and tried to carry on, but some-thing had shifted. I was so deeply tired that I couldn’t keep going. I took myself to bed and slept for several days. When I woke up, I heard a message loud and clear: You need to STOP. You need to listen. Everything in your life is telling you something is off. And for the first time in years, I did just that. I started listening.

It was then that things got really interesting.

So often, we look for connection and comfort outside ourselves. But if we rely on external means in our pursuit of pleasure, we run the risk of deluding ourselves that we’re in control when we’re not.

The opioid crisis exemplifies how out of control we can become in our desire to numb ourselves or to feel anything uncomfortable. This crisis of mass addiction claims more than 90 lives each day. The risk of death becomes a price that opioid addicts are willing to pay so that they can have temporary relief from pain and emotional anguish.

Sadly, we haven’t learned how to use our own body’s natural abilities to work through pain and suffering. Our own brains can actually manufacture chemicals that can produce the type of endorphins that make us feel as good or as high as drugs or alcohol can. What’s more, we all have the ability through tools such as Mindfulness and meditation to trigger the neurotransmitters in our brains that make us feel high. Some of us, however, are awakening to this capability, including veterans with PTSD who are able to reduce stress and anxiety and connect with feelings of harmony and happiness.

We’re all able to tap into Mindfulness — or present moment awareness — to reveal the moments of our lives as rich with meaning. Mindfulness helps us not only to ameliorate our suffering, but to experience joy, elation and a higher state of consciousness. Mindfulness is there for us when we want a boost of energy that lifts us up from the doldrums of everyday life.

Our spirits not only deserve to be nurtured and loved, but also to feel exalted. We can experience this type of joy that gets our neurotransmitters truly fired up. When we’re good to ourselves and able to value who we are, we’re in essence taking care of our spirit.

Our brains are ripe to join the universe in its oneness. With Mindfulness we’re able to achieve a shift in consciousness that essentially helps raise the consciousness on the planet. When we practice Mindfulness, stay in present moment awareness, commit to self-surrender and lift the veils of falsehood, we will feel this shift. Our consciousness is connected to the collective.

In essence, what we do affects the universal consciousness of the planet. If we attempt to find that connection through drugs, alcohol or other mind-numbing influences, we rob ourselves from finding union with the divine spirit within and around us.

Begin a Mindfulness practice and begin a journey towards connecting with the divine spirit by using this contemplation as a guide:

  1. Find a quiet place to sit.
  2. Let your mind rest in non-doing.
  3. Open your mind to receive by telling yourself that you’re open to knowing.
  4. If your mind is active, engage it in a question — for example: “Who am I?” or “What is this life?”
  5. Spend time allowing yourself to be with what you ask.
  6. Say that you are ready to “know.”
  7. Dwell in whatever you’re hearing or feeling.
  8. Allow yourself to go deeper into reflective thinking and let your introspection take you where it will.
  9. Call forward God, source or whatever the divine means to you.
  10. Let yourself freefall into the connection of your spirit with the divine.

Making time for Mindfulness is a gift to ourselves. Finding time in our day to be still and present puts us in touch with who we are, and in our knowing, we uncover our union with the profound state of mystical awareness.

The power of a smile is often underestimated, but it can build bridges and forge connections between people of all ages. For children, a simple smile and conscious effort to be kind to one another can make a real difference in ensuring everyone feels accepted and loved, regardless of their different backgrounds and struggles.

Wanting to spread the message and provide families and schools with an accessible and easy resource to teach children about building strong friendships, Melanie Broughton wrote Daisy Finds Her Smile. The book is a heart-warming children’s book based on a true story about Melanie’s pet ducks and chickens. Melanie is a mum of three grown up children, when one of them was bullied at school, she realised that the story of one of her ducks in particular, Daisy, could open up and inspire discussions with children about bullying and steer them toward a kinder, fairer and more inclusive world.

Melanie bought Daisy the duck and initially put her in with her chickens, however Daisy had a hidden disability which made her clumsy. The chickens bullied her constantly until she became isolated and only spent time by herself. Seeing that Daisy was lonely and sad, Melanie bought two other ducks to be Daisy’s friends, and she immediately perked up and became happier.

Daisy Finds Her Smile is the perfect book to encourage conversations around bullying, mental health, feelings and how to treat others with compassion and acceptance, despite their differences. It can help children understand that not all disabilities are visible and that being thoughtful toward others can make a lasting difference. Melanie emphasises that everyone has their own special ‘smiling powers’ which can help others feel welcome and build meaningful relationships. After all, a smile is infectious, it’s the simplest way to share happiness.

Combining an uplifting and empathetic tale with educational takeaways, Daisy Finds Her Smile is the ideal read for young children aged between four and eight, families looking for a cheerful story to read together and teachers wanting to introduce the topic of anti-bullying and an understanding about treating all people with acceptance to their students. It would make a valuable addition to any family or school bookshelf.

Daisy Finds Her Smile is published by Panoma Press and available on Amazon.

Arising from observations of life in quiet moments; ‘THE ONE’ is a light-hearted read, simple in explanation, but providing what are perhaps deeper, underlying messages for each reader to ingest and make sense of in their own particular way. The intention is that you read this book and gain some insight or wisdom and expand your senses to another perspective that gives food for thought.  It is an easy to read book that has a subtle vibration within the words read that hopefully speak to one’s heart with a familiarity of inner truth.

The title of the book, The One came about when I had a session with a Spiritual Coach, who was able to blend with the Spirit, Master Chou – ‘a wise and compassionate spirit being’.    At some point in my conversation with Master Chou, I explained how it seemed that everyone I had been speaking to were looking for their group of people who they could call their tribe.  I explained how this puzzled me because I never felt this same need, however, when asked by people which tribe (group of people) I belonged to, I didn’t have an answer and didn’t really know how to respond.  I asked Master Chou what he thought about that.  His response was, “just tell them, The One”.    I couldn’t at the time think of what to say and yet, this was the most perfect answer.

The One, being the Only One that we are all truly a part of, (in the bigger sense of the word) whether you call it the Creator, God, Energy, the Universe, it doesn’t really matter because with The One,  you already belong to or are a part of something much more vast and infinite!

Art Therapy Mandalas

We all look for ways to manage the pressures of everyday life, and to alleviate feelings of stress. Art Therapy Mandalas provides not only a wonderful creative outlet, but also a way of focusing attention away from external stress, thereby encouraging a sense of relaxation and increased wellbeing.

Used for centuries across different cultures and religions, a ‘mandala’ is a spiritual symbol used in Buddhist and Hindu traditions to represent the universe, and is often used as an aid to meditation. Mandalas can therefore be spiritually healing and help to create a peaceful state of mind. Although sometimes basic in design, they are often extremely intricate. Traditionally, the mandala consists of an outer circle, sometimes shown on fire to represent the universe and the dangers it holds, and an inner ‘palace’, housing deities and the enlightened. With 100 patterns based on Tibetan and Hindu traditions, as well as some original designs, this beautiful art book will enable you to relax and rediscover the pleasures of being creative.

Art Therapy: Stained Glass

art therapy stained glass100 Designs for Colouring in and Relaxation, illustrated by Sophie Leblanc
Available 21st August £12.99

Since the middle ages, stained glass has been used to create beautiful and elegant works of art, loved and admired around the world. Stained Glass is a collection of stunning patterns inspired by stained-glass designs from medieval art to Art Nouveau.

Colouring-in is not something that only children can enjoy. Adults are rediscovering the pleasure and benefits to be derived from this activity. It’s a wonderful way to let your creative side express itself, and also a highly relaxing process, as your attention is drawn away from the stresses and distractions of everyday life. Meditative and rewarding, colouring-in is increasingly recognized as an art form in its own right. Sophie Leblanc has created 100 charming stained-glass designs, both traditional and contemporary, through which you can find your own personal haven.
