First Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria, Next Vaccination-Resistant Viruses?

We all know that bacteria have increasingly become resistant to antibiotics and that now there are powerfully resistant strains that do not respond to the current range of man-made antibiotics available. There is a race now to develop new antibiotics to try to beat these microorganisms that can mutate readily with the right environments.

What was once a life-saving medical intervention is losing its effectiveness largely because of excessive use both for humans, and in particular for animals that account for 90% of antibiotic use. This is a problem we have brought on ourselves, and the solution will need reduction and more restricted use of new antibiotics in the future and a massive antibiotic reduction in industrialized farming of animals in disease generating environments. 

This, in itself, is a serious global problem but not as great as that posed by international wholesale vaccination that will generate more and more resistant strains that may quickly overcome any attempt to keep pace with new man-made vaccines. This potential problem is far greater than the current antibiotic resistance one, for the simple reason that it is relatively easy to knock-out a new bacterium that is a far more complex and susceptible organism than a virus that can mutate rapidly and easily as we are already witnessing.

Natural Immunity

Everyone is well informed about Covid-19 that has brought much of the world to a unique social and economic grinding halt.

This was not because of the virus, but because of our response to it.

For thousands of years, mankind had been able to survive millions of viral threats because we have evolved a most remarkable and incomprehensibly complex immune system over that same period.

We are now told that we all need regular repeated vaccinations of the entire world to protect us from mutant variants of the virus along with social distancing, regular hand sanitation, and wearing of masks.

There can be no return to normal living if this is the rational assessment of the global situation.

Dr. Bruce Lipton has published a video HERE that explains how we are all protected by our immune systems. Perhaps we should all do whatever we can to strengthen this protection and only use vaccinations when absolutely necessary and not indiscriminately for everyone. We will never be able to replace our inherited immune systems with any amount of vaccines, gene therapies, or drugs. That would be a sign of either gross ignorance or scientific arrogance.

Both problems are related to the fact that we need to be cautious when trying to replicate, replace, or sub-ordinate our natural defence mechanisms, we need judicious, intelligent evaluation of each clinical situation and not rely on quick fixes that may have long-term serious ramifications. 

We need more humility when we interfere in complex systems that have evolved over millennia. 

Where are the medical leaders who are not driven by the immediate demands of governments and commercial powers? We need them to speak up and add cautionary advice on these matters.

Confusion of Gene Therapy with Vaccination

The mRNA “vaccines” created by Moderna and Pfizer are gene therapies. They meet all the definitions of gene therapy and none of the definitions for a vaccine. This matters, as you cannot mandate a gene therapy against COVID-19 any more than you can force entire populations to undergo gene therapy for a cancer they do not have and may never be at risk of developing. The mRNA contains genetic instructions for making various proteins. mRNA “vaccines” deliver a synthetic version of mRNA into your cells that carry the instruction to produce the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, the antigen, that then activates your immune system to produce antibodies.

The only one benefiting from an mRNA “vaccine” is the vaccinated individual, since all they are designed to do is lessen clinical symptoms associated with the S-1 spike protein. Since you’re the only one who will reap a benefit, it makes no sense to demand you accept the risks of the therapy “for the greater good” of your community. 

Since mRNA “vaccines” do not meet the medical and/or legal definition of a vaccine, marketing them as such is a deceptive practice that violates the law that governs advertising of medical practices.

SARS-CoV-2 has not even been proven to be the cause of COVID-19. So, a gene therapy that instructs your body to produce a SARS-CoV-2 antigen — the viral spike protein — cannot be said to be preventive against COVID-19, as the two have not been shown to be causally linked.

Herd Immunity Threshold Vastly Overestimated

Modellers were incorrect when they predicted that 70% to 80% would get infected before herd immunity would naturally allow the spread of infection to taper off.

In reality, the herd immunity threshold has turned out to be far lower, which removes the justification for social distancing and lock-downs. More than a dozen scientists now claim the herd immunity threshold is likely below 50%, perhaps even as low as 10%. Data from Stockholm County, Sweden, show a herd immunity threshold of 17%. In an essay, Brown University professor Dr. Andrew Bostom noted:

“Lead investigator Dr. Gomes, from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and her colleagues concluded: ‘naturally acquired immunity to SARS-CoV-2 may place populations over the herd immunity threshold once as few as 10-20% of its individuals are immune.’

Separate HIT [herd immunity threshold] calculations of 9%, 10-20%, 17% and 43% — each substantially below the dogmatically asserted value of ~70% — have been reported by investigators from Tel-Aviv University, Oxford University, University College of London, and Stockholm University, respectively.”

How could they get this so wrong? Herd immunity is calculated using the reproductive number, or R-naught (R0), which is the estimated number of new infections that may occur from one infected person. R0 of below 1 (with R1 meaning that one person who’s infected is expected to infect one other person) indicates that cases are declining while R0 above 1 suggests cases are on the rise. It’s far from an exact science, however, as a person’s susceptibility to infection varies depending on many factors, including their health, age, and contacts within a community. The initial R0 calculations for COVID-19’s herd immunity threshold were based on assumptions that everyone has the same susceptibility and would be mixing randomly with others in the community.

That doesn’t happen in real life though. According to professor Karl Friston, a statistician, “effective susceptible population,” meaning those not already immune to COVID-19 and therefore at risk of infection, was never 100%. At most, it was 50% and most likely only around 20%.

Despite the mounting of such data and the clear knowledge that lockdowns were causing unimaginable harm to mental health, physical health, education, and local economies, lockdowns were repeatedly implemented in various parts of the world.

The initial modelling report from the Imperial College COVID-19 Response Team actually admitted it did “not consider the ethical or economic implications” of the pandemic measures proposed, noting only that “The social and economic effects of the measures which are needed to achieve this policy goal will be profound.” Today, we have a much better grasp on just how profound the social and economic effects have in fact been, and they’re devastating.

Linguistics Under Attack

Over the last few months, there has been a rewriting of a few terms in healthcare and medicine to fit the current situation with COVID-19. The changes are subtle but together are very significant if we are ever to return to life anything as it was pre-2020.

Herd Immunity  

Ever since I can recall, the concept of “herd immunity” referred to the naturally developing immunity to disease over time as everyone as is exposed to the disease and develop their individual resistance to the disease. This has now been re-defined as occurring when everyone has been vaccinated against the disease, not the natural process of the past but a medically driven mass vaccination independent of the normally developing individual immune response.

Vaccine

The second re-definition that I discovered was the inherent meaning of the word “vaccine”. All past medical definitions I have checked define a vaccine as “a medical injection or other means of the introduction of a substance that protects the patient from contracting a disease and prevents the individual from transmitting the same disease.”

However, the three major new “vaccines” based on mRNA, do not claim to protect against infection but primarily reduce the severity of the infection, and also do not ensure the reduced transmission of the disease. It is also worth noting that past vaccines have been diligently tested over many years before being deemed safe, whereas the mRNA jabs are still novel, experimental medicines that have been given a safety clearance after only months of testing. This, despite previous similar jabs based on mRNA design, having been stopped because of serious adverse reactions, and only with the chemotherapeutic treatment of cancer patients did they continue to be used.

There may be another reason why these new jabs have been given the highest recognition as vaccines, in order to encourage the rapid development and use of them. Currently, in the USA and in the UK, the responsibility for the safety of all vaccines has been taken over by the Governments, the manufacturers are no longer responsible for ensuring the safety of their products if they are called vaccines, but are still fully liable for all other drugs they produce. My concern is that this protection could lead to lower safety standards and less testing for adverse reactions or effectiveness.

Case

Now comes the third re-defined word I have met, “case”.  Traditionally and in practice, a case of any disease meant the observation and evaluation of a person who had shown symptoms and signs of the disease. A simple logical definition most would agree with, but in recent months we have been regularly informed of the number of new cases of COVID-19 as simply a person testing positive to one of the current testing procedures. This, despite the fact that it is accepted that there are many false positives. If this were a minor error it would not be significant but there may be as many as 80% false positives.

On the basis of these questionable tests, the public is given an impression of an epidemic greater than the true situation and on this “evidence” we are subjected to continuing lockdown and increased anxiety of the disease.

Health

I am now waiting to see that the word “health” is going to be re-defined as “an absence of disease”. I have often asked audiences what they understand “health” is, and all have agreed it is far more than an absence of diseases. This is a fundamental problem for modern medicine. Its dominant focus on treating diseases and lack of concern for promoting healthy living has led us to the sick state we find ourselves suffering from in the so-called developed nations. If we accept this concept that health is simply an absence of disease then we are set for an eternity of ever-increasing medical treatment, more routine drugs for every man, woman, and child. Forget healthy living, this will be worse than any 1984 scenario.

Finally, just to be clear, I am not an anti-vaxer, but prefer to see medicine used with discrimination and good judgment, not routinely without consideration of potential adverse effects. 

I am in favour of the Hippocratic oath “ I promise to do no harm” which has been severely diluted to permit the use of medical procedures that, in balance, do more good than harm on a community basis but may not apply so well for individuals!

Health for everyone is not some dreamer’s utopia. It is the norm that nature tends towards, it may be best defined as the consequence of a growing wholeness at all levels. In fact, the very word is derived from old English Hale, which means Whole. 

Our individual health is reflected in the health of the family, the community, mankind, and the entire planet. 

We cannot take up arms against the whole of nature and hope to beat her. We are not that wise or powerful. 

We must start a new way of living that embraces nature and that does not destroy the fauna, flora, land, seas, and air in the name of human progress. 

We must learn to be less arrogant, more humble, and rejoice in how much we have learned so far, but how infinitely greater is our ignorance of life and the universe.

In days of old we’d see the tiger, take in a breath of horror and, with an activated stress response, we’d run and run and run, breathing into our chests, transporting oxygen and sugar through the bloodstream into our muscles until we’d finally reach safety, roll a stone across our doorway of our cave and then let out a huge sigh of relief!

It’s that sigh of relief that signals to our body that we are safe and sound. It’s that beautiful long ‘out breath’ which switches on the relaxation response and turns off the stress response. 

In other words, our breath is information, and always was, before we ever used language. 

Now let’s think about this current ‘monster’ … Covid19

COVID-19 is a very different thing. We know there is a ‘threat’ out there. We can’t see it and we have nowhere really to run, so there is no out breath of relief. 

We feel anxiety for all the known and various unknown consequences of it. Our stress response remains activated and over time becomes chronic. 

Unfortunately, chronic stress is not helpful to either our physical or mental health. Amongst other things it may weaken the immune system and renders us ‘stupid’ because it shuts down the pre-frontal cortex part of our brains. We get locked into black and white thinking, and we’re left feeling isolated, disconnected and prone to catastrophising. 

This short video by Prisma Broadcast explains why this happens and how breathing helps (please note: the video was filmed prior to the current coronavirus crisis, and is in the editing process, but was kindly given).

Add in some kindness

Once we’ve got back to a base level of stress through breathing and re-engaged the pre-frontal cortex – our thinking, creative, imaginative part of the brain – we can then go a step further and actually activate the physiological ‘opposite response’ to stress.

Amazingly we can create the antithesis of the ‘stress’ response by:

  • Thinking, giving, receiving, or witnessing kind thoughts and actions 
  • Giving, receiving or witnessing positive touch
  • Feeling a sense of connection 

Doing, or even just feeling, a sense of kindness and connection is good for our physical and emotional health. Such feelings are known to boost our immune system, by increasing the production of SrgA molecules, part of our mucosal immune system found in the gut, and boost our oxytocin production.

Oxytocin is commonly known as the ’calm, kind, connect’ hormone. It has more recently also been coined the ‘cardioprotective’ hormone because it also acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory throughout the cardiovascular system as well as stimulating the production of Nitric Oxide.

Nitric Oxide has a myriad of cardiovascular benefits, including keeping our arteries smooth, clear and elastic, so protecting them from becoming hard, calcified, clogged and brittle. 

It turns out that our physical health is influenced by how we are ‘feeling and breathing’!

Deep breathing

If we regularly do some deep belly breathing, where the out-breath is longer than the in-breath, we can keep returning our stress levels back to base level. This creates more coping capacity for the rest of the day’s events.

I routinely do about 6-10 of these breaths every time I brush my teeth, boil the kettle, and turn on my PC, as well when I feel my stress levels rising. 

Then through either doing, or if you are in isolation just thinking kind thoughts and deeds, we can become experts at creating hormones which help us to feel calm, connected, compassionate and kind to ourselves, each other and the world as a whole. 

What better way to boost our immune system, protect our cardiovascular health and feel connected right now!

During this ‘certainly uncertain’ time of the coronavirus pandemic, the majority of us are feeling as if the rug has been pulled out from underneath us. Understatement no doubt! The effects of the virus are not only concerning for our physical health, though also the further reaching implications financially both in the home and wider economy. And we really don’t know how long the current crisis will continue, what the after-effects will be, and how long they will continue to impact. 

We are uncertain, scared, anxious, frightened, we feel low, we feel powerless. Yet we’re also witnessing some of the best of the best in human nature. Our sense of ‘we’re in this together-ness’ is emerging loud and strong. Then we feel empowered again, and hopeful, and we trust that we will come out the other side wiser and more resilient, and maybe with a renewed and fresh perspective and focus.

During our isolation many of us are searching, looking for answers, sharing news, sharing hope, sharing laughter, being more considerate and loving, catching up with each other, taking time for each other. Many of us are searching for ways to help keep healthy – what we can do to protect ourselves physically. We may look for ways to help us stay calm amidst the chaos, ways to help us feel empowered rather than powerless, ways to help ease financial uncertainties, new ways of working… our searching is far reaching.

As with most things in life, people are attracted to different ideas and what suits one might not suit or appeal to another. So our searches are personal to us, and we keep exploring until we find the things that resonate with who we are. Often one path leads to another, and another, and another…

Of the umpteen philosophies, courses, tutorials, videos, books, online information, therapies and expertise from which to choose out there, I’d like to pick just one for now to share that might be of interest if you’re not already familiar, and that is EFT. What is it, and how might it help us during this coronavirus crisis?

What is EFT?

EFT (the Emotional Freedom Technique or Therapy) is also referred to as ‘Tapping’. It is a practice based on both Eastern medicine and Western psychology, and can be used to alleviate both physical and emotional conditions. The theory is based on the fact that everything is made up of energy, including ourselves, and that ailments, both physical and emotional result from blockages or disruptions to our energy systems.

Rather than using needles as with acupuncture, tapping is done using the fingertips to gently tap on the various meridian points in sequence. This can be done alone, in a group, or with the guidance of a practitioner. 

How do I tap?

There are slight variations taught by different practitioners, though in the main a person is asked to first of all state or think about the condition, situation, or emotion that they want relief from or to clear, whilst tapping with their fingers of one hand on to a particular meridian point. This is often referred to as ‘the set up phrase or statement’. At this time, a person can rate the condition using a scale of one to ten, with ten being the most painful, or most concerning, and one being the least extreme. 

The set up phrase is basically a statement of the what’s what that a person wants to clear, coupled with an acknowledgment that even though this condition presently exists, the person is completely accepting of themselves, for example “Even though my back is causing me extreme pain right now, I completely love and accept myself’, or ‘Even though I am anxious because I am not earning money right now, I completely love and accept myself”. 

It might seem counterintuitive to state that one accepts oneself at the same time as one might be feeling extremely anxious and feel far from self accepting, though the statement is instrumental in helping a person ‘tune in’ to the very thing they need help with. The statement needs to be truthful, and it is normally stated three times whilst tapping on the first meridian point.

Once the set up phrase has been stated three times, then the sequence of tapping on the other meridian points in turn commences, whilst stating or thinking about the current concerns, for instance “my back is so painful”, “this pain”, “I’m worried”, “No money”, or whatever comes to mind that is particular to the concern. The words can vary, and it is best to use your intuition and state what comes to mind whilst continuing to tap in sequence. There are normally 8 or 9 meridian points used in EFT practice, referred to as a ‘round’. After a few rounds, one can again rate the particular concern on the one to ten scale to see if the pain, or anxiety has lessened. If not, then it is suggested to re-phrase a new set up statement. If the particular concern hasn’t lessened it could simply be that the set up phrase needs to be more concise, perhaps more detailed to tune in closer to the situation.

Does EFT work?

There are thousands of advocates of EFT throughout the world, and surely the best way to find out is to experience it first hand (no pun intended)! At worst it may be that it doesn’t work, however at best it can help free us from physical and emotional concerns in a non-invasive way, with only positive side effects!

Will it solve all ills? No, though it can help us cope with what life throws at us and help us remain calm and centred. It might not pay the bills if we’ve got money concerns, though by helping facilitate a calmer, clearer mind, it could help free our minds to find creative ways to generate a new income stream or take a new direction. It might not cure a physical condition, though it could ease the discomfort, or give us peace of mind over a troubling situation.

This morning I am feeling sad, my heart is heavy and tears are very near the surface for me. I am tired and feel depleted, this is quite unlike me.

There are many challenges that we are going through at the moment and those running small businesses, like ours have another challenge. People who run small businesses are rarely motivated by profit. Starting up your own business usually takes a huge amount of time and commitment, many many hours of unpaid work, investment of time, energy and resources driven by the passion to create something useful and hopefully viable. We take a leap of faith and put our heart and soul into it and we also often create jobs for other people who depend on our success for their livelihood.

From new beginnings

I remember when Mark and I first set up The Link Centre. We had no money behind us, we started with a small homemade advert posted on notice boards around Lewes in Sussex. We hired a room from a local business and had 7 people on our first two-day course and slowly slowly grew from there.

As with most other small businesses we were passionate about what we did. The Link Centre is so much more than a business to us. We created it and have nurtured it, loved it, developed it, we have travelled with it, made decisions about it, struggled with it and in the odd moment have hated it. It is central to our lives and we care deeply about our business, our work, our colleagues and our students. We have an emotional attachment to it and it is part of us.

It has not always been easy, we have completed mountains of paperwork, fought battles for the good of our students, made mistakes along the way, been lied to by people we trusted, made difficult decisions and had to confront others unethical behaviour.

We have also had many many triumphs – growing numbers every year, becoming a UKATA Registered Training Centre, working collaboratively with other training centres, launching new courses, gaining accreditation for our Diploma in Counselling, seeing the moments of connections and realisation on students faces, hearing feedback from placements and supervisors about the quality of our students and, possibly the best of all, being with the students as they qualify and move on to set up thriving businesses for themselves.

And how we have grown

Over the last 17 years we have impacted thousands of peoples lives in a positive way. That was my goal. In my teens and twenties I felt like there was so much destruction in the world and I really wanted to do something that made a positive contribution. Mark and I have achieved that.

As a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I have worked with a wide range of individual clients, couples, and groups to enhance the quality of their lives. As an Internationally Qualified Trainer and Supervisor I have trained and supervised hundreds of counsellors and psychotherapists, supporting many through training, qualification, accreditation and going on to set up successful practices and to support others in their lives.

Over the last 17 years we have built up a very successful small business with various courses, accreditations with a good reputation both locally and within the counselling and psychotherapy field. We offer short workshops for personal and professional development, part time courses to Qualify as an Accredited Counsellor, Courses to Qualify as a UKCP Psychotherapist with national and international recognition, a Diploma in Supervision course, Cert. in Working with Couples, Cert, in Working with Therapy groups and many other workshops. I am proud of The Link Centre.

To the present day challenges

There are many threats to small businesses but coronavirus was not one we saw coming. We are lucky to be in a situation where we can move some of our courses online. We are an established business with a good reputation and still we, like others, are impacted. We pay a range of staff and this is not just our livelihood but theirs too. We don’t know how long this situation will go on for, we don’t know what the full impact of this will be on our business. It is painful to see something we have worked so hard for and nourished too, be impacted in a negative way. We will survive this and we will bounce back but others won’t. For some people life will not be the same after this. Many people are much worse off than us, many businesses will fail, many people will lose their income completely.

Support

From one business owner to others out there I want you to know that we know something of what you are going through, the heartbreak of seeing years and years of hard work being destroyed by this current situation. I am sad for us all and I want you to know that I am with you. Mark and I will do what we can to support small businesses as best we can now, and in the future.

We are all currently experiencing highly unnerving times, during which we are likely to be worried about our own and our loved ones’ safety, whilst also feeling physically and financially challenged. Our mental – and physical – health depends upon meeting our emotional needs in healthy ways. This helps keep stress levels low and allows our immune system to fight back and work to promote recovery from illness. To ensure we maintain as good as an emotional health as possible we need to try and keep meeting our emotional needs.

According to Human Givens theory we have nine emotional needs: 

  1. Security
  2. Attention (given and received)
  3. A sense of control
  4. Emotional intimacy
  5. Feeling part of a wider community
  6. Privacy
  7. A sense of status within social groupings
  8. A sense of competence and achievement
  9. A sense of meaning and purpose

Right now, probably the most challenged emotional need is likely to be a sense of control.

So how can you gain a sense of control?

The first thing you can do to feel a sense of control is to take maximum control over protecting yourself from catching and spreading the virus. So rather than thinking you have been ‘told’ to wash your hands and that you ‘have to’ keep a social distance etc., you could instead tell yourself that you choose to do these things because you choose to protect yourself and those you love. 

In fact, even if you aren’t a front line key worker, though are one of the many of us who have been told to stay at home, you are actually also ‘saving lives’ - a powerful and meaningful thought, and you certainly are not doing ‘nothing’!

Start to notice all the small things that you do, in fact, ‘choose’ to do in your everyday life.  

We may not be able to choose to go to work or not, but most of us are lucky enough to be able to choose whether we have tea or coffee, whether we make our bed or not, whether we brush our teeth or not, or whether we listen to the radio or watch TV.

What’s harder, though possible with practice and awareness, is to notice that we can also choose how we react to things.

Right now the worst thing we can do in the circumstances is to catastrophise and panic.

Instead of worrying and frantically trying to fight the situation, accept it is what it is, accept what you can’t control and then resolve to do your best within all that you can control, whilst acknowledging that ‘this too shall pass’.

If you feel anxiety rising, practise some deep slow breathing:

  • First acknowledge the feeling and thank it for alarming you to the fact that things are not as they should be.
  • Then, because worrying about our future is not currently helpful since none of us know what it will look like, or when the situation will change, start deep breathing into your belly. 
  • Make the out-breath longer than the in-breath, letting the belly fill up and expand on the in-breath and contract on a longer out-breath. 
  • It maybe useful to count to an in-breath of about 7 and an out-breath of about 11. 
  • Do this about 6 – 10 times, feel your feet on the ground beneath you and notice all around you. 
  • Get back into the present moment. Then make a choice to turn your mind onto getting on with other things that you enjoy doing or need to do.

Savour and notice all the little moments and things in your day like the smell of coffee, the feel of the water on your body as you shower, the bed that holds you through the night.

It is also really important to avoid feeding the anxiety with sensationalised unreliable information. Limit screen and online time to set times in the day.

Community spirit

We are social creatures and remaining in touch with others is hugely important. Doing acts of kindness is good for our physical and emotional health, so:

Look after your physical health

Finally remember to look after your physical health too. Our emotional and physical health is interconnected, so do get outside if you can and enjoy some daylight on your skin.

Exercising in some form or other is more important than ever and it needn’t take up a lot of space.

Finally remember that what we eat and drink directly affects how we feel, so choose to make some wise, health supportive choices throughout your day.
